decided to put something light today, it’s been an article i always wanted to write..

This article will be dedicated to some of the female voices i love. these voices are so powerful i call it the “Voices of Life”. simply because every time i hear voices like that, it surges me with a stream of life energy, the surge is so strong i could sometimes even feel my hair stands. though they might not be the most popular pop stars, they might not even have albums that are known to many people, yet their albums are always worth collecting, their albums are simply the living examples of quality over quantity.

among these voices, some of them are big names who own platinum albums, yet some of them were never even heard of by most people i know. these voices are:

  • Mariah Carey - i think this name need no further elaboration, her 5 octave vocal range is simply stunning.
  • Minnie Riperton - If you haven’t heard of this name, it’s okay, but i’m sure you’ve heard of her one of her famous piece “Loving You”. she is to me, a legend. the person who first sang with a whistle register
  • Whitney Houston - i guess it’s another name which i don’t need to elaborate more. simply listen to her songs and you would feel the surge of energy i was talking about.
  • Patti LaBelle - not many have heard of this name i guess. she is, however, a legend in Soul music. her strong vocal would just blow your mind. my personal opinion is, there’d be no soul in a music if it’s not sang by Patti LaBelle
  • MISIA (伊藤美咲) - she might not be as cute as the other Japanese Girls, she has no stunningly beautiful face, no sexy and skimpy outfits in MTVs, however, she stands out in her gypsy and bohemian style. if you are looking for a voice that is indistinguishable in a studio album and during live concert, she is the only one who can do that. and i believe that’s the reason why she is my all time favourite in Japan Music Industry.
  • Utada Hikaru (宇多田ヒカル) - Talented and gifted musician, together with her strong voice, she is basically an icon. i have been listening to her songs that are composed by herself since 1999. since then, i could never forget that voice and all the emotion in the song
  • Ayaka Lida (絢香飯田) - A new face in Japan Pop Music, though new, she is already considered as the possible successor of Utada Hikaru, simply listen to her voice and you couldn’t forget that solid and steady pitch of hers, you probably couldn’t even believe it was actually the voice of a 19 year old.
  • Jane Zhang (張靚穎) - A pretty new girl from China, although some might say she is imitating Mariah Carey, i thought, she is really pretty good, at least, her voice is there, and the way she sang her pieces, you could feel the power
  • Tiger Wong - i’m sure not many people have ever heard of this name. she is not a very popular pop singer in the mainstream. but back in Taiwan, she is considered as the “Queen of Pub” and she hasn’t get that name from nothing. her voice is simply sensationally awesome, that deep bass, jazzy feel.
  • Amei Zhang (張惠妹) - This is a name most Chinese will know. she’s well known of her image and her voice and that incredible range. somehow, her voice always has a sense of deep sadness when you need it. however it can be hot and happening when you need it too.

Now Listening: Patti LaBelle - Somebody Loves You
