ok, sorry i’m late on this piece, The Federal Government has spent approximately RM100 Million for the 50th Merdeka, anyway, here you go an excerpt:

The Federal Government has budgetted over RM100 million for the 50th Merdeka anniversary celebrations.

This was finally admitted by the Deputy Finance Minister, Datuk Dr. Awang Adek this evening during the winding-up of the two-day policy debate on the 2007 Supplementary estimates.

At first Awang said the original estimates for the 50th Merdeka Anniversary celebrations under the Prime Minister’s Department was RM74 million, and with the additional supplementary vote of RM18.25 million requested, making up a total of RM93 million. The government spent RM38 million for the Merdeka anniversary in 2006 and RM35 million in 2005.

read the full article from Lim Kit Siang’s blog here.

RM100 million, that’s RM100,000,000 in case you don’t know how many zeros are there for a million. to exaggerate it, imagine the usual lunch you’d had which consist a bowl of Curry Laksa that cost you RM3.50 and Teh Ais that’s going to cost you RM1.50, for a total of RM5. with the total amount of RM100,000,000. that is 20,000,000 days of lunch, which is about 54,794 years for god sake.

For your info, here’s a breakdown of where has the RM100 million gone to according to Mr. Awang:

  1. August 17 Launch of Merdeka Anniversary celebrations and raising the Jalur Gemilang (Malacca) - RM3 million
  2. August 30 Ambang Merdeka (Dataran Merdeka, KL) - RM8.2 million
  3. August 31 Merdeka Parade (Dataran Merdeka, KL) - RM26 million
  4. August 31 Merdeka Tea Party - RM1,000
  5. August 31 Massive Merdeka Celebrations (Merdeka Stadium, KL) - RM17 million
  6. Sept. 10 Close of Merdeka anniversary celebrations (Kuching) - RM4 million
  7. Flying Jalur Gemilang campaign - RM8.5 million

RM8.5 million just to fucking fly some flags !? what kind of flag is that? flags made in gold?

it just doesn’t make sense looking at the cost breakdown, somehow, i just couldn’t stop imagine how big of a portion of the money spent written on book has actually being channeled into someone’s personal bank account.

oh and by the way, to Dear Mr. Deputy Finance Minister: DON’T give me bullshits on spending ONE HUNDRED FRIGGIN’ MILLIONonce in 50 years to create a sense of national unity for the occasion, which was priceless.”

why?

that’s simple, because i personally DON’T FUCKING BUY YOUR NONSENSE. and my common sense tells me that a sense of national unity is not created by how much money you spend, nor when you spend it. it is created by:

  • politically stable country
  • just and fair policies on all aspects to ALL races
  • positive and healthy economical growth
  • safe, secured living environment

just in case your tiny little brain is not working (is it in used by the way?), let me just give you some suggestion of how to use that amount of money in a better way to create a sense of national unity:

  • better public infrastructure and amenities
  • wiser and better urban planning
  • better educational infrastructure and campaigns
  • toll free expressways

there are also some insights on how you can improve National Unity according to Dogpile’s Blogspot, read his detailed article HERE

if you still have problem understanding how to spend it wisely, simply break the RM100 million into RM1,000 block and give it to 100,000 families who are living in a state of poverty. i guess the rakyat will be a lot more happier to hear your generosity.

all in all, we are glad that you have given us a very nice merdeka celebration, but please, bear in mind that you are holding the key to all the taxpayers’ money. use it wisely, use it reasonably in order to expect us to put a fucking “X” beside your ugly looking logo during the next general election..

stop all these fucking stupid nonsense, we have had enough..

The incident on Saturday saw 350 police and Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel quelling about 600 rioters.

A crowd of 200, which had been waiting for a ceramah by Keadilan treasurer Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim in Jalan Sultan Mahmud, Batu Buruk, turned unruly after the police Light Strike Force asked them to disperse.

The crowd later swelled to 600 and began attacking the Light Strike Force, forcing it to call in the FRU.

The FRU then used tear gas and water cannon to disperse the crowd, which became even more aggressive and began hurling Molotov cocktails and burning sticks.

can you sense something has terribly gone wrong?

i just can’t stop myself from asking: What is happening to Malaysia?

what had happened to the peaceful Malaysian? what brings all these soul shocking news to us almost everyday now on the major news papers and Televisions?

who can we put the blames to? the government? the opposition political bodies? the rakyat? somehow, i guess there should be no blames at all, simply because it is all inter-linked and one would affect another. and no matter what had actually gone wrong over there in Kuala Terengganu, it’s obvious that the rakyat is seriously not too happy that they would even burn our very own jalur gemilang, something i haven’t heard for years.

here’s a very interesting analysis which i found on my daily read list, go ahead and give it a read. in fact, RSS him, there’re quite a lot of interesting articles from him, and then you’ll find yourself reading him daily.

sometimes, we didn’t notice time flies, it just slipped through our fingers, and 6 years had already passed…

it was today 6 years ago when all hell broke loose in downtown New York..

it was today 6 years ago when evil hailed, claiming lives in thousands, declaring war against the good..

it was today 6 years ago, World Trade Center became nothing but dust…

sometimes, it really make people wonder, what’s terrorism, what’s good and what’s evil, what’s that thing on fighting against terrorism, i still remember president bush once said: “if you’re not with us, then you are terrorist”

such threatening speech..

what’s fighting terrorism when we couldn’t even differentiate what’s terrorism?

peace, i guess it only happen when we’re all dead.

sincerely hope that the world hasn’t forgotten the day that shocked the world just yet.
